America 250 - National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation

Climb Aboard History

In 1976, millions of Americans lined the tracks to welcome the American Freedom Train No. 1 as it traveled coast to coast celebrating the nation’s Bicentennial. Pulling a rolling exhibition of treasured American artifacts and memorabilia through 48 states, the American Freedom Train became one of the most memorable symbols of the Bicentennial era — connecting communities through a shared celebration of the American story. This July, you can experience that excitement again as America turns 250.

The cab of this historic locomotive will be reopened to the public. Climb aboard and take a picture inside the cab.

The celebration continues with live music, dancing, a special BBQ menu, and activities for kids of all ages. Bring your family, your friends, and your patriotic spirit for a day filled with history, community, and classic American summer fun.

All aboard for America 250.
